Similar to soldiers trench art this is Civil War period sailors art. When I discovered this tobacco box it was still filled with snuff. The contents were discarded and this remained in my collection for 20+ years. The sailor drew his ship on the side with India Ink but the name of the ship is unknown. Made from scraps of wood found around the ship it measures 5-1/4” across by 2-1/2” wide by 2-1/2” tall.
